Outreach

Shhh! The SANG premier outreach project for 2019 is a secret! Our night meeting host, St. Marks UMC, is in need of ornament replacements for its giving tree, which holds wants and needs lists for youngsters who can use a little help at Christmas. When the list is removed to be filled, an ornament is chosen from under the tree to replace the list. Well… those current ornaments are no longer up to the task.
Our answer is to replace them with handmade angel ornaments to be presented the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The goal is 20 angels, from 3 to 5 inches high, finished (including hangers), ready for the tree. The choice of design and medium is up to the maker; cross-stitch, needlepoint, Hardanger, beaded by hand or on a ground, quilted, whatever method you choose. Please look through your stash, search your memory and see what you can bring to meet this challenge. But remember, this is a secret until we make the presentation!

Threads of Blessing and Meals on Wheels will continue through the year, although we will not make bags this year, so please save pretty bags to use for our donation to Meals on Wheels in December. I will pass along information on both these organizations in future newsletters.

Information regarding Habitat for Humanity samplers will be available next month, but it’s time to decide the strength of your interest. Please send a text to me at 719-322-1305 or a quick email to blonride@gmail.com to let the Board know yea or nay to continue this outreach. If yes, how many will you stitch?

Watch the Outreach tab on our website, www.sang-ega.org for updates on resource materials and projects. This is going to be fun!

Seminar 2020 Upcoming Workdays

Technique classes will resume in the Fall — until then, we ask that you join your Seminar 2020 committee members in one or more of our Favor Work Days! The favors are still a secret, but we’re coming along nicely. We will be machine and hand sewing, cutting fabric, die-cutting paper, and more. No specialized experience is required. We have jobs to match all skill levels

We will meet at St. Mark United Methodist Church; 1902 Vance Jackson Road San Antonio, TX 78213 Saturday 2 March, Saturday 6 April and Saturday 4 May from 10 am-3pm. We will break for lunch around noon. Come for just the morning, the afternoon, or all day–any amount of time you can give us is greatly appreciated! If you have any questions, please contact Mary Layman at: milayman85@gmail.com or (719) 761-0618. Now is your chance to have a hand in the favors that SANG provides. Help us show off your talent to the South Central Region in 2020! We’ll see you there

President’s Message February 2019

Short Threads from the Needle’s Eye…

Our new Board met January 17, 2019 and a lot of new ideas came out of it. Watch this newsletter for upcoming projects, workshops, classes and Outreach projects.

We are approved for a booth at the San Antonio Mini Maker Faire at the Central Library on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 10:30 to 3:00 pm. Mark your calendars and come stitch with us. We can give out the skein of floss with our card attached. Hopefully visitors will check out our website.

We will be teaching a plastic canvas heart on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Forest Hills Library from 3-5. We have the materials from last year. We have had 3-5 students learn beginning cross stitch. We will be at Maverick Library that evening. We had 3 new members at the day meeting and two of them, Joan and Kathy volunteered to help teach the class. We will have six teachers.

February 2 is Stitch in Public Day but February 16 at Memorial Library will be our Stitch in Public Day. Circle this date on your calendar. The library opens at 10:00 am and we are usually there waiting. The light is good so bring whatever you would like to stitch. We have a nice turnout at this library. Bring some of your bling projects to draw attention to our stitching.

We learned Sue Preston is moving to Florida soon. We wish her and husband Rick and Marie her mother all the best but she will be sure to keep in touch with SANG.
