News: community outreach program

Ladies, please start saving the following items which we will be using to “upcycle” into our sewing kits for this year’s community outreach program:
Promotional refrigerator magnets (you know, those business card sized magnets for the local pizza delivery shop, vet or realtor). Don’t go grabbing piles from local businesses, but please do save the ones that you no longer need. We could use an additional 30 magnets (but have it covered if you don’t have any laying around).

Buttons – either white, ecru, brown or black. Raid your button jar for buttons that can be used to repair shirt or pants which are part of the Arnold Elementary Uniforms (their colors are maroon, khaki, and white). We’re not looking for exotic or sparkly buttons — serviceable run- of-the-mill is what we need!!!

We could use 15-20 more Altoid tins — we’ll make as many kits as we have tins … but 50 is our target!
Turn these items in to Mary Hodges at any program or stitch in. If you can’t find Mary, any board member could get them to her.

Short Threads from the Needle’s Eye…

I cannot believe that school will be starting in a few weeks’ time. I am still trying to figure out where my summer went. I did get in some beading. I am so excited to have finished the beaded name tag for the EGA Seminar 2015. This is the first seminar name tag that I have completed. I have several other name tags that I started stitching but never got around to finishing for one reason or another. Let just say that this beaded name tag was truly a labor of love. There are parts of it that required me to redo more than once.

There is a bead show being held at Pedrotti’s Ranch on August 15th and August 16th. Please contact Joan Vanderbrink if you can attend and stitch. If you have never been we usually have a large table to lay out samples of our work and our stitching supplies for the projects we bring to work on. You get to talk to people interested in learning more about our guild or what you are stitching on at the moment.

I look forward to seeing the many different versions of Mariposa as class attendees continue to finish their pieces from the class held back on June 13. It was nice small piece to get some exposure to specialty stitches without becoming overwhelmed.

Did you see the article that Karin Shaw wrote for the April newsletter (it’s also being run in this newsletter) asking for original designs from the membership to put in a calendar? If you are interested in participating let Karin know.

The guild will be donating a basket to be used as a door prize for the national seminar in October. If you would like to make a donation or a contribution to the basket please let me know.

Just a reminder EGA Seminar 2015 which will be held at the Marriott River Center in San Antonio, Texas on October 28 – November 1, 2015. Class descriptions, photos, and the registration form can be found on the EGA website, www.egausa.org. If you are interested in attending and taking a class contact Kathy Scioneaux at [email protected] to check on availability.

As always happy stitching,

Jessica Jones
