Stitching at the Library

Save the Date: SANG will be joining with San Antonio Public Library to teach a beginning stitching class on Saturday, February 7th. We’ll be looking for volunteers to kit the project and teach the students. Details will be in the next newsletter.

SCR GROUP CORRESPONDENCE COURSES – VOTE NOW!

It’s voting time again! It’s time to express your preference for which Group Correspondence Course(s) (GCC) you’d like the Region to sponsor in 2015. Just in case there are some newbies out there, what this means is that the SCR will

absorb the teaching fee ($175) and all shipping and handling costs for up to five (5) classes. The student is responsible for his/her text fee and stitching supplies only.

To do this effectively, we need to know which classes our members (that’s you!) want to see offered. Each member gets two votes, so vote early! The deadline is December 31, 2014. I will send the class finalist list out around New Year’s for open registration.

You may vote individually if you like, or your Chapter can take a tally, whichever is most convenient for you. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

The list of available courses has recently been sent to your Chapter president. You also can find a list of the classes, along with photos of the class pieces, on the EGA website (http://www.egausa.org/index.php/education/group- correspondence-courses). You do not have to log in to take a look at the courses.

You may vote individually if you like, or your Chapter can take a tally, whichever is most convenient for you. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Please send your vote(s) to Beth Newton at [email protected]

[Note: SANG will not be taking a chapter tally — please email Beth directly with your vote(s).]

Community Outreach News

The women of SANG outdid themselves with their generosity and hard work putting together kits of toiletries for St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Homeless Students Program. We made over 75 complete kits and donated two paper boxes full of assorted items. The morning group was so efficient putting the kits together that the night group didn’t have anything to do … so we put them to work starting the project we’ll be putting together for 2015. I’m not the only person who thinks SANG is awesome, our group received a lovely thank you note from the program coordinator:

Short Threads from the Needle’s Eye…

Our Christmas Party today at The Quarry Golf Club was wonderful. It was fun seeing faces we had not seen in a while. I am glad so many came and we collected Toys for Tots to go to children of Marines. The ornament exchange produced beautiful ornaments. Diane did a great job of finding the Golf Club and organizing the luncheon.

Our 2015-16 officers have been elected and will take the reins on January 1, 2015. They have new ideas and classes planned for the next two years. Jessica Jones is President, Pat Sweet is 1st VP (Education), Karin Shaw is 2nd VP (Membership), Ruth Krimsky is 3rd VP, Day Meeting, Sue Preston is Treasurer and Mary Hodges is Secretary.

Plans are moving forward for EGA National here in San Antonio in October 2015. Visit the seminar page on the EGA website, egausa.org. The next registration for EGA members starts March 1 to May 1, 2015. I hope all of you have had a chance to see the classes and sign up or sign up to be a volunteer and be part of the excitement.

This is my last President’s Message. These past two years have flown. My Amadeus is framed, Hapsburg lace scissor case is nearly finished and the bell pull is about half completed and my SANG name tag has a new button lanyard from our class last year. My mail box key has a new braided Kumihimo ring. I will soon pass the gavel to Jessica and hope to see you at a meeting or stitch in in 2015 with me working on one of the Hapsburg pieces. My goal is to finish them before starting a big new piece ( I have The Needle Is My Immortality and Berkshire Revisited kitted and ready to go), but this won’t stop me from doing what is coming in 2015. Watch this newsletter for info.

Have a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year and may you complete many pieces in 2015.
