President’s Message October 2013

Short Threads from the Needle’s Eye…

We had our first technique class on September 14 and started Amadeus and Friends. Marilyn Veach is teaching this class with Tawney helping. It is a beautiful piece and out of my comfort zone but I enjoyed following the pattern and putting the metallic on the Rachel thread. Most of these threads I have never used. (If it is not DMC or pearl cotton and very few metallics, I don’t have it in my stash. I have used watercolors and Weeks Dye Works. I guess I have used more threads then I thought.) I look forward to the next class November 9, 2013.

I hope all of you are signed up for our eleventh retreat. Darlene Funk has invited us to her home for lunch on Wednesday, October 30 on the way to retreat. Diane has a lot of fun activities planned as well as all the stitching and good food. It is beautiful at Haven River Inn. The grounds are just right for a walk. We will be back to Haven River Inn for our Christmas luncheon on Sunday, December 15, 2015. The coupon was in the September newsletter. We have a pianist in the group so we can do some caroling.

Marilyn ran into Marian Ison and Marian gave her some Newsletters from 1989 and 1990. One is a two page newsletter from 1980 when dues were $15.00 and Elizabeth Zogheib was Treasurer. A new member was Marilyn Veach. They had a workshop taught by Sally Thomas to make those adorable witches that hang in her kitchen. Sally says “the girls” promise never to let your pots boil over if you allow them to fly in your kitchen. I wish I had been a member back then. I sure need one of those witches. Carol Milburn held the first meeting of our night group in her home on Sept. 19, 1990. Bobbie Ravicz offered the use of The Yarn Barn for night meetings. Donna Semmes presented a program on Pulled Thread on Canvas. These newsletters will go in our history box after I am finished reading them.

Memorial Library has invited us to have an exhibit at their library for the month of February, 2014. This will coincide with Stitch In Public Day, February 1, 2014. The pieces will hang from a molding around the upper walls of the library.

We will be stitching Tuesday, October 1 at Maverick Library, Saturday, October 19 at Memorial Library and our 4th Tuesday meetings Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
I hope to see all of you at a stitch in soon.
